Over the last month and a half, I have been fortunate enough to be part of two unique collaborations between the stone industry and the architectural community. The most recent of these took place just last week in the Liguria region of Italy, where the Italian Trade Commission gathered more than 20 architects from the U.S., the Netherlands, the U.K., France and Brazil to take part in an intensive three-day tour of the region and its native stone resources.
The Sonja Mosaics Collection by Walker Zanger bridges two worlds of design, incorporating both antique Roman elements and modern-day influences. Individual tiles within the mosacis are made from hand-cut marble and limestone -- some are even sourced from ancient Roman quarries. For more information on the product, click here.
Celebrating its 27th edition, Cersaie once again staked its place as one of the world's largest exhibitions of ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings by drawing an international crowd of over 83,000 people. Held from September 29 to October 3, 2009 in Bologna, Italy, the show provided a forum for attendees to view the latest innovations in tile products that recently hit the market.

Among the latest luxury establishments to hit the Las Vegas region is the M Resort, Spa and Casino - located on a 90-acre piece of property on South Las Vegas Boulevard in Henderson, NV. The resort not only attracts guests who are looking to relax, pamper themselves and enjoy Las Vegas nightlife, but it also recently provided the home kitchen to Season 6 contestants on Bravo's popular television series "Top Chef." Designed and built by Marnell Corrao Associates of Las Vegas, the M Resort is lavishly dressed in Italian marble and Turkish travertine throughout its interior and exterior spaces - creating a warm yet contemporary environment.

Bionic Tile® by Ceracasa, nitrous oxide ceramic decontaminant, now available to U.S. market
ALCORA, CASTELLÓN, SPAIN -- Ceracasa, a Tile of Spain branded manufacturer, has produced an innovative ceramic product that removes harmful nitrous oxide (NOx) pollution from the air through a process of photocatalysis, with the help of sunlight and humidity. The product, known as Bionic Tile® by Ceracasa, was developed in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in Spain and FMC-Foret. The product made its U.S. debut at the HEALTHCAREDESIGN.09 tradeshow, which was held from October 31 to November 3 in Orlando, FL.

Recycled glass mosaics contribute to "Green" design
Hakatai, an importer and distributor of glass mosaic tile, helped Vision Development achieve LEED for Homes Platinum-level certification for the "Tree House Project" located in the Studio City district of Los Angeles, CA. The project was constructed in partnership with a regional utility company through their Advanced Home Case Study Program. For the design, the project team identified products and measures that enhance sustainability, durability, energy and water efficiencies, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort throughout the house, including Hakatai's
Ashland-e series that is comprised of between 30 and 70% glass from bottles and/or other waste glass that would otherwise have entered the solid waste stream.
