With a passion for the sea, the homeowners of a private residence in Shelter Island, NY, chose a nautical map made from hand-molded ceramic tile from Spain to be the focal point of their kitchen design

Positioned between the North and South forks of Long Island, NY, is Shelter Island -- a secluded piece of land that spans about 8,000 acres, with a good portion being protected wetlands nature preserve marshland. Nearly a third of the island is owned by The Nature Conservancy, and the rest of the land makes for peaceful surroundings for private residents. Recently, a home was constructed on the shore overlooking Greenport Harbor, and Spanish tile was utilized to create a unique focal point in the kitchen that captures the homeowner's love for the sea. Working around an already existing landscape, the construction of a new residential project in Southern Texas appears as if it has always been in existence. Materials, including local limestone throughout, aid in the "permanent" feeling the home and its extended living spaces exude. Full article

COVERINGS RETURNING TO ORLANDO IN 2010; HEADING TO
LOS ANGELES IN 2011

The planning has begun for Coverings 2010, which will take place next April 27 to 30, when the international show of ceramic tile and natural stone returns to Orlando, FL, and the Orange County Convention Center. Then in 2011, the show will be making a strategic move westward, heading to the Los Angeles Convention Center in California. Click here for more information.
