It is the time when stone and tile manufacturers from around the world introduce the latest products to the industry as well as the architecture and design community. And even though budgets are tight in these difficult economic times, many professionals find that it is worth the expense to visit at least one of these exhibitions in order to stay abreast of current trends. EmilCeramica expands recycled content initiative Green Design 1

EmilCeramica,
 a leading Italian porcelain tile manufacturer, has announced a major expansion of the use of recycled material in its manufacturing processes. The bulk of EmilCeramica products, including those marketed under the Ergon Engineered Stone brand, are now manufactured using up to 44% pre-consumer recycled content and will support the requirements of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Rating System for "New Construction & Major Renovations version 2.2."  Click here to read more

Enhancing sustainable architecture with stone   Green Design 3E

The sleek design of the Visionaire -- a luxury residential high-rise in Battery Park, New York City -- is not only a testament to the aesthetically pleasing results of the use of stone in architecture, but it is also an example of environmentally friendly building. The design was conceived in 2005, and from the beginning, the Visionaire was targeted for LEED Platinum Certification from the Green Building Council. The building represents the third green residential project designed under the collaborative leadership of Albanese Development Corp. and Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. Full article

Natural Stone Council links Green Building certification programs and Genuine StoneTM

HOLLIS, NH -- The Natural Stone Council (NSC), a collaborative organization representing business and trade associations that promote stone under the Genuine Stone™ brand, recently announced the availability of its first case study in a series of research-based documents highlighting the environmental advantages of natural stone. ASID CEU Accredited Course by Patti Fasan, Certified CTC

WASHINGTON, DC -- A one-day course entitled "Design Expertise with Ceramic Tile," which was submitted by Tile of Spain Consultant Patti Fasan, has been approved by the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC). Approval enables all IDCEC's core member organizations: ASID, IDC, IDEC and IIDA to earn continuing education credits upon completion of the course. Click here for more information

Vermont Quarries to launch new Web site

RUTLAND, VT -- Vermont Quarries Corp. will be launching its new Web site in February 2009. The new Web site will be designed to allow its current and future clients to view current inventories, choose individual slabs with photos and sizes, order samples and test data and request cut-to-size pricing.
