For the design of a private residence in Old Tappan, NJ, Vanessa De Leon of Vanessa De Leon Associates selected innovative tile products to transform a traditional colonial home into a more minimalist space. And, by using materials in like hues and flowing patterns, the designer was able to carry a similar design scheme from room to room throughout the residence. Full article

When building a spec home in Austin, TX, Steve Wauson of Craftsman Homes of Austin adhered to a few design objectives. Above all, it was a priority to utilize as many natural materials as possible -- making for environmentally friendly architecture. In doing so, an assortment of natural stone -- including several regional varieties -- was employed throughout the home's interior and exterior spaces. Full article

JSG Oceana announces "Green Qualities" of its specialty glass tile Green Design.Oceana 1

JSG Oceana, a manufacturer of specialty glass tile in Jeannette, PA, takes special consideration when designing and producing its glass tile products to ensure that they are eco-friendly, according to the company, who states that most of JSG Oceana's glass tile is made with recycled glass. JSG Oceana glass is composed of "Hard Roc" glass, a unique formulation of borosilicate glass created by the glass tile manufacturer.  Click here to read more

Ceramic Tiles of Italy 2009 Design Competition

Now in its 16th year, the Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition celebrates exceptional examples of contemporary American design featuring Italian ceramic tiles. A call for entries for the 2009 edition has been announced by the Ceramic Tiles of Italy, and submissions must be received no later than February 6, 2009. Click here for more information

Call for Entries: 2009 Spectrum and Prism Awards 

Extraordinary and innovative use of tile and stone in architecture and design will be recognized at Coverings 2009 with the annual presentation of the prestigious Spectrum and Prism Awards. In issuing the Call for Entries, it was announced that the prize money for the two programs -- Spectrum for tile, Prism for stone -- totals $21,000, and it will be bestowed upon winners at a special awards ceremony at the international tile and stone exhibition and conference, which will be held from April 21 to 24, 2009, at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. Downloadable entry forms will be available at http://www.coverings.com/spectrum-prism-awards.html. Projects must have been completed between January 2005 and December 2008, and the deadline for receipt is January 30, 2009. Click here for more information
