A different take on "wood"Stonewood A

by Michael Reis, Senior Editor

There is no denying the warmth that natural wood brings to a space -- particularly hardwood flooring. When properly maintained (and restored) over the years, wood flooring can give a timeless feel to a broad range of design styles. Landscape architect and sculptor, Scott Murase, worked closely with Yellow Mountain Stoneworks of Seattle, WA, to develop a unique stone and water feature that provides sculptural seating and a new public gathering space for the neighborhood. Italian porcelain creates modern residential design  Arizona 1

Over 3,000 square feet of large-format porcelain tiles were recently employed for flooring throughout a private residence and guest house in Cave Creek, AZ. Local architect Michael P. Johnson of Michael P. Johnson Design Studio Ltd. explained that the design goal was not to use the solid white tile as a decorative element, but rather as a building material. "I wanted to use large-format tile because they have fewer joints, so it reads more like a mat rather than tiles," he explained. "It really becomes the stage for all of the furnishings, art and appliances." Full article
